Three things decide your price

The charger on the wall is the easy part. We check all three before quoting.

Your switchboard

Older homes often have no spare ways or ceramic fuses. If the board can't carry a 7 kW continuous load, it needs upgrading — and you'll hear that before you commit, not on the day. Sometimes it's the consumer mains feeding the board rather than the board itself.

Single or three phase

Single phase caps out near 7.4 kW. Three phase reaches 22 kW — but only if your car accepts it. We check your model first, because unused capacity is money burnt. If three phase does stack up, we do the upgrade as well.

Your solar

A standard charger pulls from the grid whether the sun's out or not. A Zappi charges from your surplus instead, so you're not buying back power you generated.

Thinking about a battery too?

Charger, solar and storage are one system, not three purchases. Same switchboard, same install, usually cheaper done together.

What gets installed

Chargers we fit every week

As a myenergi Product Champion we get factory training on the Zappi range and direct technical support — so a solar-matched Zappi gets commissioned properly, not just wired in.

  • myenergi Zappi — solar-matched charging
  • Tesla Wall Connector — tidy, properly run
  • 7 kW single phase — the standard overnight charge
  • 22 kW three phase — where the car justifies it
  • Switchboard upgrades — RCBOs, compliant main switch
  • Second circuits — for two-EV households

Have another charger in mind? We can install it. Brand doesn't matter — if it's a compliant charger sold in Australia, we'll fit it, wire it and commission it. Tell us what you've got or what you're looking at and we'll price the install around it.

Does your board need work first?

A charger is a continuous load. Plenty of boards around here can't carry one without work — and you'll hear that before you commit, not once the wall's open.

Questions we get asked every week

Do I need a switchboard upgrade for an EV charger?

Sometimes. The charger needs its own RCBO circuit and capacity for a sustained 32 A draw — newer homes usually cope, ceramic-fuse boards don't. We check before quoting, so the number we give you is the number you pay.

Can I charge my EV from my solar?

With the right charger, yes. A Zappi diverts your export surplus into the car rather than selling it back for a few cents — solar-only, grid-topped, or a blend. A standard charger can't do it.

Do I need three-phase power?

Usually not — most EVs sold here cap their onboard AC charger at 7.4 kW, so the extra capacity sits idle. It stacks up if your car takes 11 kW or more, you're charging two EVs, or three phase is already at the property.

How long does the install take?

Half a day for a straightforward 7 kW install with the board nearby. Long runs, detached garages or a switchboard upgrade make it a full day — we'll tell you which when we quote.

Can I just use the cable that came with the car?

For very low mileage, sometimes. But a 10 A granny lead adds 10–15 km of range an hour against 40 km+ from a wall charger, and running one nightly off a general outlet not designed for continuous load is a genuine fire risk.

Do you supply a Certificate of Electrical Safety?

Always. Prescribed work is independently inspected as well. Keep the certificate — your insurer will want it if you ever claim.

Already have solar and thinking about storage as well? A charger and a battery share the same switchboard work, so it's often cheaper to do both at once. See battery retrofit.
